Real Madrid Termination of Contract with Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard will leave Real Madrid at the end of this season after agreeing to terminate his contract a year early.
Real Madrid have confirmed that they have agreed to terminate Eden Hazard's contract one year early and that he will leave the club at the end of this season. The Belgium international has endured a difficult time at the Santiago Bernabeu since moving from Chelsea in 2019 and will leave a year before his current contract expires.
"Real Madrid Football Club and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will leave the club from June 30, 2023," said the club's statement. "Eden Hazard has been part of our club for four seasons, where he has won 8 titles: 1 European Cup, 1 Club World Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 2 LaLiga titles, 1 Copa del Rey and 2 Super Cups of Spain. "Real Madrid would like to express our love for Eden Hazard and we wish him and his family all the best in the next stage of his football career."
Los Blancos have reportedly tried to lure Hazard out of the door for some time, but the player has repeatedly insisted that he wants to stay in Madrid, despite getting very few chances to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Hazard was Madrid's best player by some distance, pulling in as much as €600,000 (£530,000/$640,000) a week to sit on the bench. He has previously spoken about his broken relationship with manager Carlo Ancelotti, with teammate Toni Kroos admitting that he has 'no sympathy' for his team-mate.
Hazard was considering retirement after seeing out his Madrid contract next season. His next move is unknown, however, Relevo and The Athletic have suggested that Hazard could hang up his boots soon
