Karim Benzema to Leave Real Madrid as Free Agent ahead of Mega Saudi Arabia Transfer
Madrid: Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema will leave Real Madrid as a free agent at the end of the season after 14 years at the club, the LaLiga club said on Sunday, with the striker expected to join Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad.
"Real Madrid and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his wonderful and unforgettable era as a player at our club," said a statement from Los Blancos.
Saudi Arabia's state television channel Al Ekhbariya reported that Al Ittihad have reached an agreement with Benzema on a two-year contract, with club officials in Madrid to set a "record deal" for the striker.
The 35-year-old Frenchman looked set to stay at the Spanish club for one more year after the 2022-23 season where he struggled with injuries and missed France's World Cup in Qatar due to another injury. "Madrid want to show their gratitude and all their love for a man who is one of our greatest legends."
